My favorite project to create was the sgraffito, because I feel like I could really show my creative aspects and passion for art. Also, it was more free style and had fewer restrictions.
A time where I struggled and found something difficult was during the wheel throwing unit. I always ruined my project and had to start over, I overcame this problem, by asking classmates and Mrs. August for assistance, Also by failing so many times, I got better and better and practiced a lot.
To be honest, I didn't really know a lot about ceramics. I knew what clay was and I knew what glaze was, but that was about all. I didn't know the process of making a piece, or the many different types of projects you can make. I also didn't know anything about the wheel. I have grown so much over the semester. I learned how to properly handle clay, and the names of the different carving tools I used while making designs. I learned how to glaze a piece and manage my time in class in order to get this all done. Methods I learned include, the scratch and attach technique, the smoothing technique, the rasping technique, and the sgraffito technique. I also was educated on the different projects, which included the pinch pot, orgainc pinch pot, sgraffito, exposed coil pot, smooth coil pot, and the monster.
