Exposed Coil Pot
To make a coil cup, you start with a small amount of clay, and pound it into a patty. Put through slab roller. Then, you use a cup as a stencil, and cut out a circle. This will be your base. Then, scratch and attach your first layer of coils onto the base. Then, add to those coils with different shaped and sized coils. These will not need to be scratched and attached, but smoothed together in the inside in order connect them. Finally, bisque and glaze. A good coil cup must have outstanding coils, with smooth, even appearance. The inside must be carefully smoothed. It also must have 3 different coil designs to create a unique piece. My 3 designs included a large squared coil at the base, small circle coils in the middle, and wavy coils at the top. I also had a rolled coil at the very top to finish off my piece. I chose these designs, because I thought they all looked well together.
